What is Yunohost?

The Preferred Self Hosting OS for Beginners

Yunohost is an open source operating system that aims to make self hosting simple with built in security features and easy to deploy website applications. For the average user that is just getting started with DIY onsite web hosting, Yunohost is a great option that allows you to quickly host a variety of web apps on your own terms.

PrivateRouter will pre-configure your requested apps and domains on Yunohost prior to shipment. You can also browse the available apps and add or remove web services to your domains at anytime as well as configure specific user permissions or modify public/private access for each app.

The number of simultaneous applications you can host on one box is limited to the speed and performance of your device. Yunohost is capable of hosting multiple domains, countless apps, and providing a reliable hosting platform for a small to medium userbase. That said, it’s not intended to be a full scale solution to host serve thousands of users. For those that need a production ready server that can scale with larger growth, we suggest using Docker.

With a tiny 48 x 46mm footprint this is a device that can quite literally fit in your pocket. The Orange Pi Zero offers the rarely seen Allwinner H2 version. During testing the only difference we can see between the two SoCs is that the H3 supports 4K video while the H2 is limited to 1080p, however for those running headless webservers like Yunohost this will not be a downside. Like the H3, the H2 has four Cortex-A7 cores clocked to 1.2GHz, as well as a Mali-400 MP2 GPU that clocks in at 600MHz. The H2 packs more CPU power than the 1GHz, single-core ARM11 Broadcom BCM2835 found on the popular Raspberry Pi Zero. This is a great affordable small DIY web hosting board that can run everything from Nextcloud, Mattermost and various media servers on a local network or remote access setup. We ship the Orange Pi Zero with an official Armbian buster build along with Yunohost, pre-installed.
